thankful for them

My kids started school today. 5th grade and 3rd grade. I’m not exactly sure when they grew up enough for them to be this age. I swear I haven’t aged that much.

There are days when being a parent is really fucking hard…where you can’t help but wonder why you thought having a family was a good idea in the first place…but then come the days where you hear them playing and laughing together and your heart is happy.

I love watching my kiddos grow. Girl child is wise beyond her years…always taking care of her friends and the people she cares about…sometimes it’s easy to forget that she’s only 10. Boy child is so intelligent and just an information sponge…he wears his heart on his sleeve and isn’t afraid to be himself.

Me? I’m the mom who can forget to be thankful for things and doesn’t take the time to write messages for their lunches. I’m the mom who ruins sons like a crazy lady trying to make sure that I don’t forget to pick anyone up. I’m the mom who sometimes forgets to feed her children dinner because I’m exhausted and fell asleep on the couch.

I’m far from the perfect mom, but I do my best. I love them…they are pretty amazing little human beings. And even though I should have made them go to bed early tonight, I had to soak in the last few minutes of giggles and laughter.
